MEET MURPH

A Lifelong Columbian, Dedicated Business Owner & Community Leader Committed to a Safer, Stronger Future for Columbia, MO

Blair "Murph" Murphy is a lifelong resident of Columbia, Missouri, a proud graduate of Columbia Public Schools, and deeply rooted in the community. Raised by a single mother after moving to Columbia as a child, Murph’s journey is a testament to the values and resilience he’s found here.

For over five decades, Murph has dedicated himself to Columbia through his successful business, charitable endeavors, and civic commitments. With over 35 years at Johnston Paint and Decorating — 11 of those as co-owner — Murph has built lasting relationships with local residents and businesses, delivering high-quality service with a personal touch. His leadership naturally extends beyond his business, and since 2016, he has actively served on the Crimestoppers board, addressing crime and promoting safety within Columbia.

Murph prioritizes reinvestment in the community that shaped him. His years of service include dedicated involvement with with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Daniel Boone Little League, Columbia South Rotary, the Sophie Cunningham Classic, and the Norm Stewart Classic. The Murphy family's passion for affordable homeownership led them to a pilot partnership with Love Columbia and Anderson Homes Foundation. Driven by a deep understanding of Columbia's needs and a commitment to meaningful change, he is now running for Mayor in the April 2025 municipal election.

Murph’s family — his wife of 25 years, Melissa, and their daughters, Maddie and Molly — also calls Columbia home. As a family man, local business owner, and community leader, Murph brings the experience and dedication necessary to help build a safer, stronger Columbia future.
